Have you ever driven in Boston?

It's an experience where you take your life in your own hands, literally.  Bostonians are CRAZY drivers!  Defensive driving techniques do NOT apply here.  My Dad taught me to drive with lines like "just let them go, we're not in a hurry, let 'em all go."  "Use your turn signal to let everyone know where you're going, lots of warning."  "They're making a turn, give them space."

Here in Boston it's more like, let's make a left hand turn from the right hand lane and cross two lanes of traffic in the process.  Green, yellow and red lights mean go-- but it's in your best interest to gun it at a red light if a car is coming across.  Honk at everyone!  U-turns your way- whenever and wherever you want.  Dodge the potholes, anyone's best guess if you're driving in a real lane or breakdown lane, welcome to the most complicated rotaries ever and definitely don't expect the roads to be labeled what the GPS is calling them.  The Big Dig might be over, but construction never ends and any pedestrian is definitely 10 points.

When we first moved here my husband, Mike, asked me on a Thursday if I had left our apartment yet this week-- mind you it was amidst a heatwave of 90+ degrees all week and I was 36 weeks pregnant.  "Of course I've left our apartment, I walk, no I waddle, the dog every morning."
"How about besides that?  Have you gone exploring yet?  What's in our neighborhood?"
"There's a cactus on my weather app to tell me it's hot.  I fully believe that's true and don't think I want to leave the AC of our apartment to waddle my way out.  Plus, I thought you loved me and we were happily married?!?  Asking me to go drive is a death wish!"

I have found the courage and gumption to drive, and it usually comes with a begrudgingly large price tag to park.  I almost always return home saying thank goodness we got rid of my SUV in our downsize to one car.  The Prius is SO MUCH easier to park.  Yet, I have found something even better... the T!

Though it often takes longer to get to where we're going (another relative to #Boston issue), it's become my preferred method of travel.
