Home Sweet Home:: Wellington Station

Wellington Station is our home base.  It's the station I'll start at for each of these adventures.  Assembly is also one of our favorites and will likely get a long post too, but before I get ahead of myself....

You can walk up the stairs from the platform at Wellington, trek down a super long sky bridge and arrive at Station Landing.  There's a smattering of restaurants and shops.  I think our favorite is Regina's Pizza.  When I was pregnant and beyond my due date, I tried everything that Dr. Google suggested to get the ball rolling.  When it said eat spicy food, I tried Thai, Mexican and Indian spicy--- still pregnant.  My husband was giving me a foot massage every night with essential oils, I was drinking raspberry leaf tea and had the TENS machine going-- still pregnant.  I was waddling up the stairs in our apartment, doing squats and miles of walking-- still pregnant.  Someone said Italian put them into labor, specifically eggplant parmesan.  That night we got the eggplant parm from Regina's and a pizza.  While it didn't put me into labor, it was delicious!!  So delicious, it's actually voted the BEST pizza in the COUNTRY!!

If you cross the road at the crazy rotary intersection and make it to the other side you're better than the chicken crossing the road.  You'll also make it to the Mystic River State Reservation.  Really great place to take a walk- lots of paved paths and a neat tower that gives you a breathtaking view.  (If you're out of shape or 38 weeks pregnant it's a different type of breathtaking)

While we're talking about great places to walk, there are two others that our dog Hogan loves to go adventuring on.  If you walk out of Wellington Station, through the back parking lot, you can follow the train tracks and the Malden River, along the Wellington Greenway.  This path is probably my favorite place to let my dog off leash while we walk.  I don't often see other people there, (despite lovely benches and views) the river is one boundary and the fence to the train is another.  There aren't too many options for how the four legged guy can get into trouble.

Rivers Edge Park is on the other side of Wellington Station (I recommend using the new underpass footpath) and continues along the Malden River.  Meticulously maintained, lots of green space and the Tufts Boathouse means you might see some people in crew shells.  The benches are great for a quick picnic or to just take it all in.

Sometimes the only duck we see is the one connected to our WubbaNub.  Though the rabbits-- they clearly have MULTIPLIED and drive our dog with hound blood NUTS.

It's a little bit longer to walk over through Santilli Circle, but I'll argue worth it.  Behind Best Buy, you stumble upon Sacramore Playground.  I love that they have a splash pad, basketball court, turf field, walking path and a SUPER COOL inclusive (ADA compliant) playground, sectioned with age appropriate equipment.  Such a good neighborhood find!!!!

You're now just a hop, skip, and jump away from Night Shift Brewery.  It was a whole family affair when we tried this one out.  We found a solid selection of beer (I dig the creative names) and I loved the food truck and donut shops they team up with.  Plus the theme nights are SO FUN!  We were there for Friendsgiving with a big screen showing of a Friends episode and bingo.

There are a couple things that are still on my to do list for trying at Wellington Station.  The first one is the Roasted Coconut from the cart stand set up at the station.  In the summer and fall it was outside by the buses and now that it's bitter cold, I see the stand inside.  I've always walked by, but my husband doesn't like coconut so I keep walking by.  One of these days though, I'll try it and you'll hear about it 😀.  Number two, there's a weather station in the parking lot and I have no idea what they do!  Number three, iHeart Radio vehicles are parked in the Cabot Road parking lot.  I'd love to do a radio station tour, yeah?!  Stay tuned- no pun intended, unless it makes you think I'm cooler than I might be.
